Personality and Facebook addiction There has been some fascinating research looking at the 5-factor model of personality and various behavioural addictions (Griffiths, 2013).
So for any Facebook addicts out there, it might be interesting to see where research most likely places you on the 5-factor personality model.
The trait that proved statistically significant out of the following factors:
Neuroticism
Openness
Agreeableness
Extroversion
Conscientiousness
Out of these one seemed tied to Facebook addiction and that was…Extroversion.
The authors surmise that individuals ranking high on extroversion seek out stimulation (Eysenck, 1967, as cited in Griffiths, 2013). It’s assumed that individuals high on extroversion use the media to "express their social needs and tendencies.”
Other addictions also tended to feature individuals with high extroversion but you’ll have to wait for that.
