I'm a student of psychology and I'm on my third year of studies.Well, it's been a while since somebody asked me this question, so thank you! There were a few turning points in my life that somehow lead me to I'd say "my calling".When I was younger I had a boyfriend who was suffering from depression, I had no idea what depression was at that time and I just wanted to make him feel better by doing the exact opposite of what I "needed" to do. He was telling me that I am not helping at all but only making it worse and I was feeling so useless at that time even though I was just a child and I didn't know any better. The quilt and pain I was feeling led me to better understanding and wanting to help other people, at least I wanted to be able to make their lives a little bit better. So that's how it started.. and here I am now! ☺️Would love to hear about you aswell!
Thank you for such a personal response and for sharing what must have been a very difficult time. You seem to have made the best out of the circumstances and the lesson learned. It's great that you can take those challenging times and utilize them to better understand other people and help them.
As someone who has also needed to be there not only as someone with depression but to help someone close to me handle their depression, I just hope that pursuing psychology helps you as it has helped me.
I loved hearing something personal from someone, as the most personal times tend to have a significant impact on how we later mold ourselves.
There was no 'aha' moment for me, though I've always been something of a watcher and been curious about how people behave. I remember being about 5 or 6 and watching a stranger play a video game, usually, other kids might have been tempted to join in, but I was content just watching and trying to figure the behavior out.
Since then, my interest in how people think has mixed with a fascination with neurological issues and how they can affect behavior.
Wow, I love your story! It's so amazing that you started observing people's behaviour from that age, while almost everyone else is still thinking about themselves. Thank you for sharing your story and also for your encouraging words.I wish you all the best in the journey ahead!
well im in my last year of psychology degree. I chose psychology since it was something I was already interested in. Aside from body language and eye contact, there are other factors to consider. I wanted to study more and potentially have a better understanding of our minds, our actions, and so on. however for me, psychology/Behavioral Health may be the field to pursue if a person is enthusiastic about people and wants to help others.
That's a brilliant answer, and a great glimpse as to what motivated you to pursue psychology. I wish you all the best in the last year of your studies, that's a real accomplishment.
