I read this article today that gave a great overview of the prevalence and effect of patients stalking their healthcare professionals.
For those of you who are a healthcare professionals, does your workplaces have anything to help support you if this were to ever happen? Are there any strategies in place?
It's a very interesting topic. I have seen some other literature on cyberstalking, and it is even higher than non-cyberstalking. Most people who are going to see a psychologist for an evaluation will look them up online and attempt to learn more about them if they have access to the internet. Most of the best strategies are preventative in nature and regard keeping online information as private as possible or choosing not to post much personal information in the first place. If the stalking is at a sufficient level, a police report or charges may be necessary.
Always keep a separate telephone number and email address for work! Restrict your social media profiles.
