In order to prevent insomnia a good sleep habit is a must along with the following points:
Ø Maintain a consistent bedtime and waking time throughout the week, including weekends.
Ø Keep moving – staying active helps you get a good night's sleep.
Ø Examine your meds to determine whether they could be causing your insomnia.
Ø Naps should be avoided or limited.
Ø Caffeine and alcohol should be avoided or limited, and nicotine should be avoided.
Ø Make a nightly habit for yourself, such as having a warm bath, reading, or listening to calming music.
Ø Large meals and alcohol should be avoided before going to bed.
These are great tips.
I think as you say having a consistent nghtly routine as well as watching caffeine intake after a certain time really helps.
I certainly have a nightly schedule involving reading and music or a podcast helps to facilitate some down time that prepares me for sleep.
Unfortunately, with the stresses of occupation, family etc it's hard for people to create this nightly routine. I think employers have a part to play in ensuring employees get the necessary sleep that theyneed to function at their best.
