Hello everybody!
Whereas all of us do know that social media has somewhat played a role in propagating crime or exacerbated someone's criminal mentality, can it be possible to use social media as a device in combatting mental illnesses and helping out those who need professional help?
I definitely think it is possible to curate a social media experience that can be beneficial to mental health. It's a great way to keep in touch with people who are far away and find people you relate to and get easy access to uplifting quotes or therapy instagram pages. It definitely is not all bad.
Everything has a good and a bad side, it purely depends on one's usage. There aee people who are using social media for the good cause, to help their mental health by following different therapists, getting more knowledge about their mental problems but it can't chamge the fact that most of us are just destroying our mental health using social media excessively. Lying down in bed for long hours watching videos ignoring sleep, which is doing more harm than benefit.
Also many other problems like comparing oneself, one's life with other causes depressive feelings. Social media it self is very addictive, if we dontdon't learn to maintain a balance in using it, it can lead to poor mental health.
I feel like social media is mostly harmful to mental health. I have seen some articles on it, and I think it has made it hard for me to stay focused.
This is not exactly "social media," but there is an app called "HearMe" you might all want to check out. It randomly connects people from all over the world to give one another support anonymously. You don't know who the other person is. You just listen (or speak depending on which role you are in) and let the person discuss and vent. No judgment, typically no advice. It's not therapy, but it's helping the other person feel heard. It can be cathartic and supportive.
Yes, it is possible. In fact there are people who are already using it for that purpose. But you need to understand that social media itself is not the problem. Social media is a tool and just like any other tool, it can be used negatively or positively. Even without social media, those problems would still exist.
I think social media negatively impacts mental health for the most part. For example, when I'm feeling stressed out, I find myself scrolling through TikTok and Instagram for hours. It's definitely a way to "distance" yourself from your issues. I'm not sure if it can be used to help mental health though
Social media always paint as a villain in real life that is sucking joy. But according to research it is may not be true; social media can help socially awkward people to connect with others, it may boost self esteem. Alot of suicidal teenagers seek help from social media.
People who don't wanna share their identity can get help anonymously from online therapy.
Yes , there are many ways social media can destroy your mental health , but if use properly it can be a great tool.
