Greetings everyone!
In recent years, we have seen a very unfortunate high rise in incidents of mass shootings in the United States, especially in schools. What is the basic psychological reason behind this kind of violence among people that triggers them to go on a mass shooting spree killing so many people?
Some gun violence is brought on by mental illness like depression or anti-social personality disorder, however this is not always (and possibly not most commonly) the case. In another post someone also mentioned that one of the leading causes for gun violence is poor self-control and a tendency towards risky behaviors. As for their specific triggers, someone with poor self-control could potentially be set off by things others wouldn't think twice about.
I would also lean more towards sociopathy as opposed to psychopathy. Sociopaths tend to be more hate-driven and present anti-social characteristics alongside a lack of empathy. On the other hand, psychopaths are quite manipulative and actually pretend to have feelings and emotions.
I have also heard that bullying and harassment has led to some of it.
Psychopath, narcissim
Most school shooters are white males ; they think they can get away with anything. They are well protected by justice system.
