What do you believe about this quote: “Much of the evil in this word is due to the fact that man, in general, is hopelessly unconscious” C.G.Jung ?
I strongly believe that people are not evil, but only incapable to notice and acknowledge the consequences of their actions.
Its hard to say I think some know exactly what they are doing and just don't care or it makes them feel powerful or whatever psychotic illusion they have going on. Real genuine good human beings exist. People either have good values or crappy ones.
That's a really interesting question. I believe that it a matter of view but most of the people might at least implicitly believe that human nature is not basically good. Why I'm saying this. Well, let's start by the effort parents make to teach their child of good manners and behaviours. Plus we are spending great amount of our time constantly learning how to overcome our narcissistic tendencies, how to be more understanding and loving toward others etc etc. Again, as I said, I believe it's a matter of personal view of each individual but it's a great topic for discussion.
The concept of 'evil' to me is more a theological than a valid and useful term. Diagnostically it doesn't tell you very much. You are correct that a lot of issues arise with the inability to see the effects of actions. However, some disorders whether of personality or mind may lead to the perpetrator not caring about the possible ramifications. Certainly a level of introspection may aid in appreciating the outcome of one's action thereby reducing unconscious acts. However, no amount of introspection will save one from wilful ignorance of one's actions. Great post - thanks for sharing some Jung.
