Certain psychoanalytic explanations have looked at personality traits associated with crime. In the aftermath of WWII certain researchers (Adorno) developed an F-scale to look at 'authoritarian personality'. This subtype of personality was linked to the F-Scale which tried to assess the capacity for fascism or fascist views.
The authoritarian personality was explained via, at the time, conventional veiws of psychoanalysis. A child's love and desire to please was met with harsh discipline and which induced a feeling of hatred and resentment. At a later date these traits were buried within the subconcious mind, and reappeared later when circumstance allowed.
However these psychoanalytic theories have been questioned to to the methods employed by Adorno. Usually the methods employed techniques that didn't exclude biases like the acquiesence bias.
