hoagie30, you make an interesting observation. Perhaps one has to differentiate between benign and malevolent versions of all diagnostic categories. For example, those suffering from bipolar disorder can be highly productive in the art world, and some on the autism spectrum make brilliant researchers, in the same way as some psychopaths make brilliant and highly successful lawyers (and judges).
Nina is right. Men also tend to be more aggressive and more sensitive to rejection and when this happens to a psychopath with murderous tendencies, no boundaries, and a traumatic childhood, it can escalate to murder. Lots of psychopaths are not murderers but it’s clear that they still suffer from their symptoms. Occupations for psychopaths can include surgeons, lawyers, and police officers. They enjoy the power that these types of jobs give them.
Most psychopaths are men. This is also the reason why the majority of homicides are committed by men, though it is thought that men and women have different psychopathic tendencies and behaviors, which might be why.
@Nina M. Do you think maybe women show different signs of psychopathy that are completely opposites of men? And most of the research on this topic are done by men, perhaps maybe research is biased.
@ayesha naymat If I can weigh in here. I do not think female psychopaths are any less callous than are male psychopaths, but they might use different methods, for example, rather than brute force or violence, they might poison or starve their victims.
