A better example would be the character Tony Hill in 'Wire in the Blood' as well as the main character in 'Cracker'. Though my personal favourite would be the fictional Sherlock Holmes who blends acute observation tinged often with psychological insights.
However all these characters are more often successful than not - and thus can't truly be reflective of the practice and field. Psychological insight in the real world often takes decades to realise and the painstaking accumualation of data both qualitative and quantitative to build a better understanding of criminal behaviour.
