When in the courtroom setting or even butting heads with those on your side who see a different viewpoint from you, how do you deescalate the situation?
I imagine it greatly depends on the nature of the context and circumstances. However, when I am in court and cross-examination is heated, I simply remind myself of my role. I am there as an objective expert witness. My goal is to help better inform the court using my expertise. I am not taking sides, and the outcome of the case is not my responsibility. I also remind myself that, even if the cross-examining attorney seems aggressive, they are only doing their job. They are there to zealously represent their client/side, and there's a good chance they are doing a good job of doing so. I am glad they are taking their job seriously, and I do not take it personally.
