We all know not all suffering from antisocial personality disorder are murderers and criminals. My question is that how all psychopaths/sociopaths don't crimes?
That's a great question. There is of course the human element, the ability to decide how best to employ one's stock of qualities.
Psychopaths are more likely than other members of the population to become murderers, however the actual number of psychopaths who become killers is probably quite low.
Generally they satisfy the need for excitement through certain career types such as banking and surgery. Banking allows for risky behaviour and psychopaths do fairly well in banking right up until the moment they don't and the system crashes.
One might use aggression as a substitute for the overall traits of a psychopath. Aggression might more than likely lead one to act aggressively in a given situation, but this is not 100% guaranteed. There still may be enough self-restraint to prevent the aggression appearing.
However, the aggressive individual may choose sporting or hobbies which allow that aggression to be displayed in an acceptable manner (boxing etc)
Thank you for your explanation! I've never thought about people with these personality disorders going into professions where aggression is acceptable, but it makes so much sense.
