I just graduated from high school last year, and I am still trying to figure out what to do. I have always loved forensic pyschology. Does anyone have any tips or recomendations on what the best way to get there?
If you want to become a forensic psychologist in the United States (I am assuming this is where you are located, but you can correct me of course), you will need to be licensed as a clinical psychologist. This will requite obtaining a doctorate degree (either a Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical psychology and then getting licensed in the state or jurisdictions you want to work in. There is no formal license to be a forensic psychologist. In order to specialize in forensic psychology, I highly recommend you seek out forensic psychology practicums, a predoctoral internship, and a postdoctoral fellowship. You might also consider board certification in forensic psychology although this is optional and most forensic psychologists do not pursue this. Ultimately, most of your specialization will come through your clinical experience/training.
